Join us

You don’t need a boat, a licence or experience. You need an appetite for wind, cold and speed.

What you get from us

  • Never alone on the ice

As a member you travel with the group. Someone knows where you are, and someone has measured how thick the ice is.

  • The network

Our scouts and the fleets all over Europe report where the ice is. You are on the mailing list and hear it first.

  • Try a DN

After a briefing you sit in one of our DN sleds yourself and find out what ice sailing is.

  • Help with a boat

Members help with buying a used sled, setting it up and tuning it. A used DN can be had from around 1,200 euros.

  • Beach in summer, ice in winter

Two sports, one club. If winter doesn’t come, the beach does.

  • Fun before results

Fun regattas, winter party, summer party. If you want top performance, you get help – if not, you get peace.

How to join

  1. Write to us

A short message to info@egrs.net or via the contact form is enough. Tell us whether you already sail and what interests you.

  2. Get to know us

Come to the summer party, the annual general meeting or – when the ice bears – straight onto the ice with us.

  3. Membership application

Fill in the application form and send it to the board. We are happy to tell you the fees on request.

  4. Off you go

You are on the mailing list, get your briefing and join the next ice trip.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my own boat?

No. To try it out we put you in a DN after a briefing. If you stay, we help you buy a used sled.

Do I need a licence?

Not to try it out – we give you the briefing. For regattas you need the DSV ice sailing licence, for bigger land yachts the pilot licence; you can do both at your own pace once you are in.

How fit do I need to be?

Ice sailing is strenuous but not an elite sport. If you can push a bicycle and lie down in a sled, you can start.

What does membership cost?

We tell you the fees on request – just write to us.

When does the season start?

When the ice bears. That can be December or February, on Lake Ratzeburg or in South Tyrol. Land sailing works all year round.

Is it dangerous?

Ice sailing involves risks – which is why we only sail on measured ice, never alone and with full safety equipment.

What if I want to leave again?

In writing to the board, with three months’ notice to the end of the year – that is what the statutes say.
