DN iceboat G 633 on glassy ice in evening light

Eissegelgemeinschaft Ratzeburger Seen e.V.

Sailing when the lake stands still.

Three runners, one sail, more than 100 km/h. Since 1987 we have sailed on ice and sand – on Lake Ratzeburg when it bears, and anywhere in Europe where the ice holds right now.

One of Germany’s largest ice sailing clubs – and one of the most relaxed

We are a registered club promoting ice and land sailing. With 55 members, EGRS is one of the largest ice sailing clubs in Germany. Our motivation: getting more people hooked on this sport.

The goal is not top results in each class, but having fun. If you don’t want to compete in international regattas, you are in good hands with us. If you do want to measure yourself against the best, we will help you make your yacht fast.

wind speed – that is how fast an iceboat can go

Ice sailing

Almost no friction, no waves: an iceboat accelerates to two to four times the wind speed. How it works, what you need and why safety comes first.

The sport on ice

Land sailing

When no lake freezes, there is still the beach: with wheels instead of runners we sail on Rømø and Fanø – same physics, same grin.

The sport on sand

Where we sail

Lake Ratzeburg is home, but it rarely freezes thick enough any more. So we go where the ice is: Lake Reschen, Sweden, Masuria, Mecklenburg.

Our venues

Want to sit in a DN yourself?

You don’t need to own a boat or be an expert. After a briefing you can climb into one of our DN iceboats and find out what ice sailing feels like. Members help with getting started, buying a used boat and tuning it.
